URL
URL is an abbreviation of UniformResourceLocator,the global
address of documents and other resources on theWorld Wide Web.
In computing, a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a subset
of the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) that specifies where an identified resource is available and the
mechanism for retrieving it. In popular usage and in many technical documents and verbal discussions it is
often incorrectly used as a synonym for URI. In popular language, a URI is also referred to as a Web
address
The first part of the address is called a protocol identifier and it indicates what
protocol to use, and the second part is called are source nameand it specifies theIP addressor thedomain name where the resource is located. The protocol identifier and the resource name are separated by
a colon and two forward slashes.
For example, the two URLs below point to two different files at the
domainpcwebopedia.com.The first specifies an executable file that should be fetched using the
FTP protocol; the second specifies a Web page that should be fetched using the HTTP protocol:
- ftp://www.pcwebopedia.com/stuff.exe
- http://www.4ubuild.com a URL that links you to a new service where you can get a professional eCommerce
website with a FREE URL, and Low Cost enterpise
hosting.
- URL www.4uBuild.com offers domain names for many different countries at the lowest price on the
net
